The blue-grey tanager is a medium sized tanager from the family Thrapuidae. Its Latin name is Thraupis episcopus. It originates in South America and naturally occurs in southern Mexico to northeast Bolivia. It also occurs in the Amazon and northern Brazil. In some areas it is referred to as the blue jean.
The adult size of the blue-grey tanager is 18 centimeters in length and 35 grams in weight. The body is dark blue with light blue on the head and underneath, and a short, thickened beak.
Males and females look the same, while juveniles are dull looking and lack the bright colors of the adults. Breeding takes place in open areas and gardens, making them a commonly sighted bird in areas inhabited by humans.
